// U2 arrives in Australia

U2 has arrived in Australia ahead of its rescheduled Vertigo tour.

Bono said the band was excited to be performing again to its Australian fans, with the band's last official visit being in 1998 during the Popmart tour. He told Australian TV:

It is the best pleasure to be here, we have waited a long time for this.

U2 were supposed to play Australia in March this year, but the tour had to be postponed due to a family illness.

After eight months U2 will resume the Vertigo tour again next week at the Queensland Sports & Athletics Centre in Brisbane.

Construction on the stage started a couple of days ago:

The band is currently staying at the at the five star Palazzo Versace Hotel on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

U2 will also play two dates at Sydney's Telstra Stadium, one in Adelaide's AAMI Stadium and two at Melbourne's Telstra Dome. After that there's two shows in New Zealand and three in Japan before the Vertigo tour's final concert in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 9, 2006.
