It's the second time U2 wins the prestigious Album of the Year award, in 1988 they also won it for 'The Johua Tree'. With a total of twenty one Grammy Awards U2 now rank 6th on the list of all-time Grammy winners.
But U2 didn't come just to pick up their awards, they performed too. They played two songs: a short and energetic version of 'Vertigo', and Mary J. Blige joined them to perform 'One'.
Upon accepting the awards for 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' Bono paid tribute to his father:
Edge was also quite happy:How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is an odd title for album. We accept that. Actually I was talking about my father Bob. He was the atomic bomb in question and when he died, set off kind of a chain reaction in me, and I've been shoutin' about him and giving off about him and complaining about him, screaming about him, for the last few years. And maybe, maybe, tonight is the time to stop.
It's really a great, great moment for me personally. I wanna thank my father Bob for giving me the voice and a bit of attitude to use it.
There's a five minute video on CNN.com, in which the band is interviewed after the show.It means a hell of a lot to us. An even more precious gift than the awards is the gift that you've all afforded us to continue to make our music.
And finally, here's a bunch of pictures:
